Thousands of volunteers participated in service projects across Tulsa on Friday for United Way's Day of Caring.
A group from NORDAM is serving the Salvation Army Center of Hope through work projects like painting the dormitories, landscaping, repairs, and deep cleaning.
Three-thousand volunteers from over 80 groups and organizations are serving in different ways throughout the city. It's part of Tulsa Area United Way's Day of Caring, which is over 250 community service projects this year.
Mandy Monahan is with Tulsa-based aerospace company, NORDAM, and more than 50 employees are giving their day to help others.
She said service is one of the company's core values.
"So this is a very big part of that. Our Day of Service is a Day of Caring every year. It's a tradition at NORDAM for many decades and we consider this an important part of what we do for our community and for our team building as well,” Monahan said.
Monahan said it's a way to be a part of something bigger and bring people together outside the office.
Team members from four different departments spread across the site to work from repainting women's, men’s, and family dorms to cleaning out bird nests, and cleaning the yard.
Volunteers also organized the clothing closet.
"And it's really special every year. And it's just an awesome opportunity to do something good in our community that's needed,” Monahan said.
Other projects included Global Gardens and Youth Services of Tulsa.
The next Day of Caring will be in the spring.
