Warm temperatures hang around to start out the week, but some relief from the heat could soon be in sight.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
A mid-level ridge of high pressure is centered across the southern plains bringing unseasonal hot temps to the state. Morning lows in the 70s will be followed by afternoon highs in the upper 90s today, and 100 both Tuesday and Wednesday. Southwest winds from 12 to 25 mph will be likely for the next few days before a cold front moves across the area Thursday morning with north winds and highs dropping into the mid-80s north and lower 90s across southern Oklahoma. The minor cool-down will be short-lived as south winds return Friday with afternoon highs reaching at least the lower 90s and into the mid-90s Saturday. A slightly stronger front arrives Sunday. This system may bring a few storms across the area with highs in the upper 80s. Near seasonal temps are expected early next week as a surface ridge of high pressure briefly settles across the area with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs in the lower to mid-80s early next week.
Temps on Monday afternoon will reach the upper 90s near the metro with mostly sunny conditions for most of the day. By afternoon, a few fair-weather cumulus will develop. Heat index values should reach from 100 to 103 across the northern third of the area today. Slightly drier air will be expected Tuesday and Wednesday which lowers the heat index but also allows afternoon temps to rise to near 100. We’ll be nearing record highs the next few days. Stay hydrated.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
