A small aviation company that has been in Tulsa for decades recently doubled its workspace and changed how it does business.
Inside the new shop at Quality Aircraft Accessories employees put together piston engine plane parts for customers all over the world. The building recently doubled in size, to more than 25,000 square feet.
"In old times a technician would do one or two parts a day. Now between the line, we can do up to 50, 60 parts a day,” QAA Operations Manager Victor Algarin said.
Algarin has worked there for six years, before Hartzell Aviation bought QAA in 2020.
"It was tight. There was a lot of us here. We tried to do as much as we can but we were limited,” Algarin said. “It was time for growth.”
That growth was celebrated Friday, as city and state leaders paid a visit to the company, near Apache and Sheridan.
"Aerospace is our second leading industry and it's really tremendous, it's growing. And the investment here is a great example of that,” Brien Thorstenberg with the Tulsa Regional Chamber said.
"This is really helping spur general aviation, general aviation manufacturing, general aviation flying moving forward,” State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies said.
Quality Aircraft Accessories has been in Tulsa since 1999 and this is its second expansion.
The company, which has 40 employees in Tulsa, said the expansion will not create new jobs immediately, but it is already having an impact on how efficient they are.
"Literally the sky is the limit now,” Algarin said. “I mean it's gonna be awesome to see the impact that we have on the GA community."
With a lot more space, employees are ready to propel into the future.
