The National Congress of American Indians is kicking off the 2022 Sovereignty Run in Tahlequah on Monday.
The runners will go through Tulsa, Stroud and Oklahoma City over the next week and are scheduled to end the run in Sacramento, California on the 31st.
Organizers say the event is meant to raise awareness of issues related to tribal sovereignty and Oklahoma is a focal point this year following the Castro-Huerta decision that limited tribal jurisdiction.
