Three children under the age of 10 are dead after a crash in Le Flore County Wednesday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

OHP said the crash happened on Highway 259 at about 9:30 a.m. a few miles southeast of Muse, Okla.

Medical examiners pronounced the three children, aged 6, 8 and 9, dead at the scene.

OHP said 37-year-old Christopher Britford, from Tuscaloosa, Ala., was the driver of a 2017 Volvo truck with 31-year-old Arrie Matthews and the three children as passengers.

Britford and Matthews were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

OHP did not say if any other vehicles were involved. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Authorities said seat belts were not in use.
