An Oologah family is relieved and grateful for the firefighters who saved their house from a grass fire, but they also worked together to stop the fast-moving fire.

Jason Cagle’s field is scorched after a wildfire on Sunday. "There was so much smoke and it was so thick," said Cagle.

He said he and his family were headed to a soccer game when they noticed some grass fires nearby and decided to head back home.

"By the time we got an eighth of a mile back into the driveway, the fire had stretched across 40 to 50 acres and was right at our house,” Cagle said.

That's when the whole family jumped into action to save the house before the flames got too close.

"We quickly ran out and, you know we had the hoses going, grabbed my boys from the inside we're doing bucket brigades just to wet the fence like to keep it from going, we had the pressure washers out there," Cagle said.

But the family wasn't alone in fighting the fire. Jason's wife, Caroline said fire crews weren't far behind.

"Oologah, Talalah, Collinsville, rural district, they were all out here, they were working hard and they were so nice, very nice people, they saved our house," she said.

Jason and Caroline said if the firefighters had shown up any later, the flames would have been right up against their house.

"They came in the nick of time, I think there must have been 10 trucks out there, running, knocking it down, just whipping through trying to cut everything off," Cagle said.

Jason and Caroline said their family is now better prepared for fire danger.

"The biggest thing we figured out yesterday was just how unprepared we are ... you think you're prepared for pretty much anything then something else happens and you realize all the new gear that you need to get," said Cagle.

It's a lesson this family said they are glad they learned.
