The City of Tulsa will begin a second excavation at Oaklawn Cemetery on Wednesday in connection to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Investigation.
The excavation will include a new area at Oaklawn Cemetery in the hopes of finding potential victims from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

The first excavation took place during summer of 2021 and analysts were able to locate 19 human remains. The city says 14 of those fit the criteria for further DNA analysis. From the samples taken at Oaklawn, two DNA samples had sufficient amounts of DNA to move forward.

Intermountain Forensics will be on site on Wednesday to collect viable DNA samples. Researches will then move south and west of the area excavated last summer to look for more possible victims from the race massacre.

City leaders say experts intend to work at Oaklawn Cemetery from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and say this second excavation is expected to be done by November 18th.
City leaders are holding a news conference at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall to discuss the excavation. the event will be lived streamed on NewsOn6.com and the News On 6 App.
