Tulsa County is updating the zoning code, making changes that will more closely follow city regulations than before. It’s the first rewrite of the code since 1980.
“It is absolutely my hope that we've come to a good balance on this," Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith said.
Keith said the code was reviewed by citizen volunteers, and the staff of INCOG, to create a draft now under final review.
A public comment time, that officially ended last week, has been unofficially extended by commissioners, who encourage feedback before it goes to the planning commission on November 16.
The code could take effect as soon as January 1, 2023.
“It really needed to be revamped top to bottom,” said Keith, “Think about it, when the code was written, there weren't all these marijuana ag farms going in, so there are many things that have changed since then that needed to be addressed, but that’s a glaring reason to do it.”
The changes are slight, according to the County, mostly impacting what can and can't happen in residential areas outside of city limits. It would only impact land in the unincorporated areas of the county.
Commissioners and INCOG can take comments via email. The public will be able to comment before the planning commission on November 16.
