We'll track two additional cold fronts over the next few days along with the potential for some flurries or light snow, mostly Friday into pre-dawn Saturday. A stronger storm system is possible late next week as we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday period.
A cold front will move across the area this morning bringing gusty northwest winds this afternoon from 15 to 25 mph. A few clouds will quickly move across far NE OK but mostly sunny sky is expected with highs in the lower 40s across far northern OK, mid 40s near the metro, and upper 40s across southeastern sections of the region. A temporary return of southwest winds Thursday morning will take morning lows from the mid-20s into highs around 54 before a strong arctic front enters the area with much colder weather Friday. As the front rolls across the area late Thursday, strong north winds will increase from 15 to 30 mph Thursday night. Lows will start in the lower to mid-20s Friday morning. Far northern OK will stay near freezing for Friday afternoon highs while locations near and slightly south of the Tulsa metro will reach the mid-30s. Mostly cloudy conditions will prevail including the mention for some flurries or light snow.
A compact mid-level wave will move across Kansas and into northern OK Friday bringing a chance for some flurries or light snow for part of the area. Moisture will be limited but the timing of the wave corresponds to the potential for the highest relative humidity in the atmosphere. The shallow cold air (mostly arctic) will have a chance to squeeze out some light snow. Most data suggest only flurries will be possible through the day, but we do have at least one data set depicting a dusting of snow along and south of highway 412 Friday evening into pre-dawn Saturday. I’ll use a 10 to 20% pop for this scenario.
Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend with morning lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s Saturday and lower 50s by Sunday. A minor uptick in temps will be expected Monday through Wednesday of next week with highs reaching the 50s. The potential for another storm system nearing the plains remains for the Thanksgiving period but differences in the data will keep confidence levels low at this point.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
