Republican lawmakers have proposed legislation which would prohibit credit card companies from tracking gun purchases in Oklahoma.

Visa, Mastercard and American Express announced in 2022 the companies would start using a code to categorize the transactions involving firearms.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt voiced his opposition for the push at a Las Vegas gun show this week.

"We're not [going to] let big banks, processing companies, payroll companies discriminate against our assets," Gov. Stitt said. "I'm the governor of Oklahoma and if you're a manufacturer in Oklahoma, and we're trying to promote our assets, it's the last thing I'm going to let happen."

The legislative session in Oklahoma begins on Monday, Feb. 6.
