Tulsa Firefighters battled heavy rains and flooding while responding to a medical emergency Thursday night near 129th East Avenue and East 5th Street.

The Tulsa Fire Department responded around 10:30 p.m. but said it ended up turning into a full two-hour operation because of the storms.

Firefighters said in order to get to the woman who was having the medical emergency, they had to cross a creek. The heavy rain caused the creek to rise, and firefighters said the water was moving about 10 mph. That is when they decided to call in the rescue task force to get an inflatable boat in the water.

Meanwhile, firefighters on the ground started looking for a plan B. Captain Scott Moeller said, "As they were working through that we had a couple other trucks look at the maps to see if there was better access to a way in. So, as one was going through the creek, the other one was finding a second way in."

That second way in involved firefighters cutting a lock off of a gate to a soccer complex and driving an ATV into the woods where they eventually found the woman.

The Tulsa Fire Department said a total of 20 firefighters were involved in the operation.

There is no word yet on the woman's condition, but firefighters said she was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
