The demand for employees in the healthcare field is high, especially when it comes to EMTs.

EMSA is working now to increase the number of staff with some of their EMTs transitioning to become paramedics through its EMSA Advantage Program.

EMSA says tuition is free for students and they get paid while in the classroom and during training.

In the program, students learn the anatomy and physiology of medication’s impact on the body, the protocol of being an EMT, and are given hands-on training on how to operate in the field.

EMSA Advantage Graduate Ashely Somara says for her, helping people is a passion and she's thankful for this unique opportunity.

“It's nerve-wracking signing up for college and being told ok you have this amount of money you have to pay out of pocket. I definitely think it encouraged me a lot more knowing I don't have to pay for that and my uniform is provided for me. I already technically have a job lined up and I was paid during school,” Samora said.

EMSA leaders say for the job you need a heart for serving people and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.

They are now finding ways to make the school more interactive.

EMSA’s Adam Paluka says staying fully staffed is a huge priority and that’s why they encourage people to consider the profession.

“We have really strengthened our EMT numbers through the EMSA Advantage School. But a lot of our first round of EMSA Advantage students are about to move into our in-house paramedic school. So that’s going to leave a little bit of a gap. So we are backfilling that gap with this newest class,” Paluka said.

The deadline to register for the fourth cohort is Saturday, April 1st. Click Here for more information on how to apply.
