A Grove woman and her brother are meeting siblings they never knew they had, thanks to a genealogy website.

Kim Dunn prepared to meet her half-sister, Sherri, for the first time.

"My father had never told my real brother and I that we had another sibling,” Kim said.

She and her brother, David, used DNA kits to learn a little more about their family history a few years ago. What they found was more than what they expected.

"This girl popped up with some real high numbers and he said, 'I just know she has got to be a relative or a half sister,'” Kim said.

Kim reached out to Sherri and they learned they shared the same father.

Kim also learned she has a half-brother, Tony, in Kansas who she has yet to meet.

After a year of talking over the phone, Sherri flew from California to meet Kim on Friday.

"It's scary. It's the unknown, but I feel like I've known them forever,” Kim said.

"It's just exciting to have a sister and a brother when you don't think you've had any in 65 years. That's a long time,” Sherri Schneider said.

Kim and Sherri are learning that even though they haven't known each other their entire lives, they've got similar humor and style.

It's a short trip. Sherri flies back to California Monday, but said she looks forward to spending time learning about her siblings and their father.

"Since I don't know very much at all, it'll be fun to kind of get my background from my father's side. So, it'll be great,” Sherri said.

Before the tests, Sherri and Tony didn’t know about each other. Tony is flying from Kansas on Saturday to meet his three siblings.
