The Henryetta community came together to remember the victims found in Okmulgee County, especially 14-year-old Ivy Webster and 15-year-old Brittany Brewer, who were the two girls reported missing.
Seven bodies were found in Okmulgee County on Monday, including two missing girls and the man who was suspected of kidnapping them, authorities said.
About 200 people of all ages gathered at the gymnasium behind Henryetta High School to comfort each other.
People were hugging, crying and doing what they can to process what happened.
The families asked for no media inside, but loved ones shared photos of the vigil.
Several pastors talked about the power of prayer and how the victims’ families have their support.
Brittany Brewer’s dad, Nathan, said his daughter was outgoing, generous, helpful, loved kids and wanted to be a teacher. She even worked for her church nursery.
He said it was wonderful to see the community coming together during a heartbreaking time.
Ivy Webster’s older brother, Parker, said she was funny, beautiful, artistic, kind and well-liked. Ivy was her parents' only daughter, and the family is devastated.
“Horrible. Truly tragic, especially because we’ve known this family for like two years now and just unfortunate to know that Jesse was not a good man this whole time,” said Parker Webster.
Although authorities have not identified all seven victims, Brittany’s dad said five of the victims were students in Henryetta Schools.
Local churches and the district will have counseling available.
