Organizers Create Unique Experience For Fans At LIV Golf Tournament

Fans heading out to Cedar Ridge Country Club for the LIV Golf tournament will quickly notice this isn’t your typical golf major. Organizers have an emphasis on making the experience loud and interactive.

“The only thing that LIV tends to do is try to keep the fan engaged and get the fan engaged early,” said Frank Billings, tournament chairman.

Music will be playing throughout the course and there will be plenty of places for fans to get in on the action. This includes taking chip shots and using the golf simulators between the 1st and 9th holes.

Twelve different teams of four make up the field. Each of those teams have a unique name.

For instance, the Range Goats include stars like Taylor Gooch and Bubba Watson. Phil Mickelson captains the Hyflers.

Billings said many of the teammates are staying together throughout the week. Many of them played practice rounds together on Wednesday.

“You could tell they were playing a competitive match,” said Billings. “I saw some putts matter and I may have seen some dollar bills change hands.”

The most noticeable difference is the tournament will consist of three rounds and 54 holes.

The first round starts Friday, May 12 at 12:15 p.m. Different from other tournaments, everyone will tee off at the same time on a different hole through a shotgun start.

“From start to finish, it’s about a five hour investment in time,” said Billings.

The party doesn’t stop after Friday’s round. Country singer Lainey Wilson will be in town to perform for fans with a ticket.
