A man is injured after being shot by his roommate in a Tulsa neighborhood on Tuesday evening, police said.
The incident happened near South Sheridan Road and East 78th Street in Tulsa.
Officers said Matthew Villarreal shot his roommate because he was tired of being insulted by him. After Tuesday’s insults, Villarreal grabbed a pistol and shot the victim multiple times.
Police said Villarreal and the victim had been roommates for about a year and Villarreal told them his roommate insulted him all the time.
After the shooting, Villarreal called 911 and told police what he did, police said. He was frustrated and did not want to cooperate with the operator, police said.
“Like most people, if they’re in a frustrated moment and they’re not used to using a firearm, they haven’t been through firearm safety courses or things like that, sometimes when your adrenaline is pumping you’ll start pulling that trigger in a general direction. And that’s what it appeared happened,” Tulsa Police Sergeant Dean Hidy said.
Police said they arrested Villarreal after interviewing him and potential charges will depend on what happens to the victim.
Three people live in the house and the third roommate witnessed what happened, police said.
Officers said they believe the victim will survive.
This is a developing story.
