'Be Heard Movement' Receives Permanent Location In Tulsa

A nonprofit serving Tulsa's homeless population now has a permanent location.

The 'Be Heard Movement' provides services for personal hygiene. People who are in need can stop by and take a shower, do laundry, even get a haircut.

Now instead of moving around the city, Be Heard is here to stay. The set-up is behind Mission Church near Admiral and South Sheridan.

Be Heard Movement Founder Evan Dougood said for the last two years, the nonprofit traveled around the city to provide services.

"We've grown from two years ago just doing documentaries to now having an outreach center here in East Tulsa,” Dougood said.

With trailers to take showers and wash clothes, and one to get a fresh outfit or charge a phone, Dougood said other groups also come to help.

That includes family and children services, healthcare, and case managers who assist with housing.

In the past two weeks, the group helped two people find housing. One person hasn’t had a home in three years.

"We kind of wanted to bridge that gap with services. And so we moved to East Tulsa, which we're here right now. And now people can come take a shower throughout the week, do laundry and also engage with that mental health resource or case management,” Dougood said.

The facility is open Wednesday to Saturday, and the grand opening is June 10.

"Homelessness in Tulsa is increasing and we want to help kind of decrease that through services and just being a good neighbor,” Dougood said.
