Development Underway On Last Piece Of Owasso's Smith Farm Marketplace

Construction is a common sight in Owasso, especially around the Smith Farm Marketplace near 96th Street North and Highway 169. Housing and several new businesses are coming to the area.

Chipotle and Andy’s Frozen Custard are among the new restaurants in the area, but not for long.

“It’s pretty awesome seeing the customers come in,” said Chase Woodstock, general manager of Andy’s. “I’ve had a lot of people talking about the difference in Owasso just a year ago versus now.”

Woodstock said business has been busy since opening last fall. With a Hawaiian Bros and Dunkin’ Donuts coming soon, he is hopeful even more traffic comes through.

“I’m looking forward to the neighboring business to open up so we can definitely pick up some more,” said Woodstock. “It’s going great over here so far.”

The city said this section of 96th Street is the last piece of the Smith Farm Marketplace puzzle to be developed. In addition to the popular businesses, the area will also offer housing in a gated community.

“We really started to take off about two and a half decades ago,” said Chelsea Feary, President of the Owasso Chamber of Commerce. “For about 10-15 years, we were the fastest growing community in Oklahoma.”

Feary said more people are still choosing to work in the area and call Owasso home. That growth is what helps restaurants and other businesses complete their checklist of picking the city as a destination.

“They have the population, they have the lunch time count, the dinner time count,” said Feary. “Factors like that help them make their decisions to invest in our community.”

Feary does not expect development to slow down. She said future spots may include north Owasso along Highway 169 and the downtown Redbud District.
