'Historical Moment' Tulsa Transit Announces Rebranding Initiative, New Name

A new era of transportation is underway as the City unveils Tulsa Transit's new identity. 

 Tulsa Transit is being renamed to MetroLink Tulsa. The change comes with a new logo and new colors.

"Big moment...historical moment," said MetroLink Tulsa's General Manager Scott Marr.

He says over 45 years, Tulsa Transit has made several changes to their services. But he says today is the biggest one. 

“45 years, we’ve been Tulsa Transit so to change the name is not just something you just snap your fingers and do,” he said.

And he says rebranding is certainly not something they can do without the support of city leaders like Mayor G.T. Bynum.

 “I think MetroLink Tulsa is perfect, we are not just a city anymore, we are a metro area,” said Mayor Bynum.

Mayor Bynum says public transportation in Tulsa has evolved from a simple bus ride to rideshare services and a rapid transit bus system, so it makes sense to have a brand that represents that.  

 “I think a rebrand was appropriate considering the new service that you get,” he said. 

With this evolution, he wants to shift public transit from being a vehicle of last resort to a vehicle of choice.

 “We have to take gradual steps of helping Tulsans adopt public transit as a vehicle of choice and for those who want to move here or want to utilize it as a vehicle of choice that it's there,” Mayor Bynum said. 

Leaders believe the steps taken today are a sign that the city is still invested in the riders and the future of transportation in Tulsa and beyond.

“I hope the community looks forward to seeing our changes and we’ll embrace them,” said Marr.

Mayor Bynum says the next thing coming is a new bus rapid transit line that will run along Route 66. He says they are in the design and pre-construction phase right now.
