Artificial Intelligence is being used more and more inside schools.
Broken Arrow Public Schools says it's using Artificial Intelligence for good for both teachers and students.
Brandon Chitty, the executive director of virtual programs and instructional technology, is passionate about merging education and technology.
"You can use that phrase that you always hear that's we are preparing our students for a future we don't know, and it's changing very rapidly," he said.
He says as Artificial Intelligence becomes more popular, it can be used in schools to help teachers.
All teachers in the district have been trained on how to use AI tools.
"We call it creating teacher superpowers; it's been the most embraced training we've ever done because it's so relatable; these tools can change the starting point for teachers," he said.
Brandon says teachers can use AI for lesson plans and other teaching duties, and if it's done the right way, it can help them to focus on connecting with students.
"The human part is still strong, and I would argue even stronger because the human is still the deliverer. The human is still the one who is going to have to look at this and make it real," he said.
He says when it comes to students using AI and tools like ChatGPT, they aren't too concerned about plagiarism.
"We're not a gotcha district; we're not about catching kids doing the wrong thing. We're about finding where our students are. If they are using these tools in a bad way, that seems to be a path of least resistance to finish an assignment, then we need to rethink our assignments," he said.
Brandon says teachers need to prepare students for a world where using artificial intelligence will be a skill they'll need.
"We gotta get to a point that this tool is going to be used by our kids and in their professions, you're going to be a highly sought after employee if you can prompt artificial intelligence to get good information out of it," he said.
