Exhibit About Route 66 Leaving Tulsa Historical Society And Museum Soon

Time is running out for you to see a unique Route 66 exhibit at Tulsa’s Historical Society and Museum.

The "Tulsa 66: America’s Main Street in the Oil Capital” exhibit has been available for viewing for nearly two years. It’s the longest the museum's ever kept a main gallery open.

Museum leaders are hoping people come and get one last look before it's over.

Director of Exhibits, Sophia Hurd, said the exhibit features historic photos from Tulsa on Route 66 and its landmarks.

The site also has two classic cars that have been loaned for the exhibit.

Hurd said Route 66 captures people’s imagination and a lot of people know about it, but don’t know the history.

For the museum, it’s been important to highlight some of the pioneers of the road like Cyrus Avery.

"There were immigrants coming to work in the oil fields. We had affluent oil men who came and were building huge luxurious buildings. It really created a unique environment that’s unlike most cities histories," Hurd said.

December 22 is the last day to view the exhibit. The next exhibit is set to open February 2 and is Tulsa in the 1920s.
