For nearly 10 years, Food on the Move has made it its mission to fight food insecurity here in Oklahoma. Its founder, Taylor Hanson, joined us along with CEO Kevin Harper to talk more about their work throughout the state.
"We have three pillars, which is access, education and innovation. Our flagship program is a community food and resource festival, which they are a lot of fun. If you've never been to one, the first time you go, you'll hear it before you see it. There's a DJ at every event. And when your founder is a pop star, that's kind of important," Harper said.
Harper explained that at the festival, everyone gets a 30-pound bag of fresh produce and a meal from a food truck. They have 20 different community partners there to address what's going on in each community. Harper said that allows them to directly learn from the community.
Food on the Move has launched educational programs as well to show students the possibilities for their future.
