An indoor cycling studio is helping people kickstart their New Year's fitness resolution.
LEAGUE Indoor Cycling opened at 43rd and Peoria on Brookside last October. It is locally owned and female-owned by co-founders Erin Miller Thiessen and May Segovia who said they have been in the industry for more than five years.
"We saw an opportunity to bring something new, to bring a new challenge to Tulsa, to bring health, fitness, and wellness to the heart of Tulsa," said Thiessen.
Indoor cycling is a high-intensity form of exercise, but rather than chasing distance riders at LEAGUE move to the rhythm of the music.
"I tell people all the time you cannot really understand it unless you come experience it firsthand," said Thiessen. "It is an endorphin delivery unlike any other type of workout."
These 45-minute group workouts are called practices.
"We call them practices because every single day, we have got to approach not just our fitness and our health, but our lives as a student to be a sponge and soak up the very best of everything that day has to offer," Thiessen said.
That is a goal that many people set in the New Year, but often struggle to keep. At LEAGUE, the community and style of exercise help do that for you.
"I think at the end of the day people want to be seen," Thiessen said. "They want to be welcomed with open arms, they want an environment that feels approachable and feels safe."
That type of atmosphere is why Melanie Callicoet said she sold her Peloton.
"I actually had one at home, and I recently sold that because I love it here so much," she added. "I think that this would be a great place to start because you do have the community and people to rely on, so it is just a fun way to work out."
For those worried about staying committed to a New Year's fitness resolution, LEAGUE can help with that, too. Inside the studio is a "Hype Hall" where riders who hit milestones like 100, 300, and 500 rides are celebrated.
Even on the days when motivation is lacking, the music and company at LEAGUE are not.
Thiessen said, "No matter what type of energy that you clip in with, whether it is 40%, 70%, or 150%, we will take it because that is enough for us and you are welcome here with whatever you have to offer."

Many people try to start the New Year on the right foot by setting a fitness goal but, the traditional gym setting is not for everyone. News On 6's Alyssa Miller spoke with Erin Miller Thiessen at League Indoor Cycling about other options for staying fit.
It's all a part of how we celebrate the great and diverse communities we live and work in with the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch.'
Indoor Cycling
So if you have made a New Year's resolution to get in shape, or just live a healthier lifestyle, this class is a great option. So I'm here with one of the owners, Aaron Miller Peterson. So tell me a little bit about what league indoor cycling is. Because I know you guys just opened back in October.
Erin: 80 days, we've opened our doors. So we've been thrilled with the sport of Tulsa, and our community is growing every single day, I think what makes our experience so unique and so special is that we're a true rhythm-based experience. So the atmosphere is extremely impactful, you've got lights, music, vibrations, and then you've got energy next to you. I think that that's really the difference between boutique fitness and working out on your own is the community aspect of a very tight-knit community. And when we think about our brand, our x is the intersection of music and movement.
So when you hop into a class when you clip into this bike, which is why I'm not moving Exactly, exactly, you're immediately going to be hit with all the vibes, you're gonna get lost for 45 minutes, you're going to be able to escape all the outside world and just immerse yourself in a message in a rhythm. And in the experience, really that is what our community loves. There's nothing else like indoor cycling.
The Power of Community Support For Keeping Goals
Alyssa: And when we talk about New Year's resolutions, a lot of times people struggle with having that motivation to get into the gym. So talk about how having the community like you said, we'll help people with that.
Erin: Well, one, it's being represented, we have all walks of life in our space, men, women, may them all colors, all sizes, all ages, you really can find yourself and see yourself in our brand. That's a big pillar of who we are. And that's why we have a lot of mirrored Xs and golds and Platinums. And reflective materials is because we truly want you to see yourself in this community. We've loved that about our, our league here.
What Does An Indoor Cycling Session Look Like?
Erin: So loud music. Number one, you got to have the vibes, you got to have the light. So the thing that starts to separate us is finding that lead leg.
Here's what makes us unique. When you've got someone next to you, you're held accountable. Yeah, you start to see yourself in the mirror. You're together. And I'm gonna tell you when you look in a mirror and you see 30 Humans next to moving in the same direction. They just help you oh my god, there's nothing like it.
You can download our app League Indoor Cycling on your Android or Apple phone. The first two rides are for the price of one. We cannot wait to see you.
