Families Of Victims From Bartlesville Fire One Decade Ago To Hold Memorial

Five people were found dead in a house fire in Bartlesville ten years ago Thursday and their families are still searching for answers.

They’ll be holding a memorial this weekend to keep the memories of those five victims alive.

The parents of the victims say even ten years later, they’re still learning how to live every day without their kids. 

Their goal is to make sure no one forgets them.

A gazebo now stands on the property where five people died in a house fire on January 4th, 2014.

In the past ten years, there have been more questions than answers for the parents of those victims.

Destiny Daugherty's mother wants to know the truth.

“We don’t really know, 100% what happened over here," said Michelle Malicoat. "But someone started the fire that day, that early morning. Lot of rumors going around, lot of speculations. We just want the truth.”

It’s taken Casey Johnson eight years to even process the loss of her son, Kevin Lomax.

It’s hard for her to even come back to the place where it happened.

“I can do it now because it’s something beautiful and not such a painful memory," said Johnson. "It took a long time for them to tear the house down and to work things out; it wasn’t a really simple case.”

The families say they still want answers.

Shelby Sanders' mother says that not knowing is painful.

“Who would do this to our kids?" said Pauline Chama. "Who could go on living with themself, knowing what they did? It hurts. All of us mothers are hurting still, to this day.”

And they believe one day, they’ll get justice for their kids.

“We want the person that’s possibly watching this, know that we will find you, some way, somehow," said Chama. "We will find it. It might not be today or tomorrow, but we’ll find out.”

Police say the other two victims were Chase Wright and Jeremy Blair.  

The memorial will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and is open to everyone.
