It was a scary situation in the City of Grove when officials announced that gas pressure got so low in Patricia Island that 1,800 people couldn't use their gas heaters for more than six hours.

The city said crews were able to increase gas pressure on Patricia Island by increasing and adjusting the levels at other stations in the city.

Now, all customers have gas and can run heaters. The city opened a warming station at its city hall on Friday and encouraged people who could not heat their homes to head over.

There was food, water and coffee offered 24/7.

Grove EMS said adding transports to the mix on top of issues on the turnpike has made the day even busier for them.

"Unfortunately some of the closer agencies got tied up a little bit with the traffic and pile-ups," said Michael Todd. "You may be able to get an ambulance to the scene but getting them off the turnpike is difficult so we have to cover down for the other agencies when they don't have a unit available so we responded all the way here out from Vinita, which is 30 miles away because there's no other closer ambulance."

City of Grove crews worked on streets throughout the day, but everything was frozen and they weren't making progress. They'll start back up in the morning.
