Tulsa Basketball Player PJ Haggerty In The Running For National Freshman Of The Year Award

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are just 1-5 in American Conference Play, but they might have the best player in the conference.

So far in league play, TCU transfer PJ Haggerty leads the American with over 23 points a game.

He's been a great addition to Green Country, even if he didn't know what Tulsa really had to offer.

"I didn't know what Tulsa was at first," Haggerty said. "I thought it was like a lot of land, basically."

He may have not known then, but almost a year later he's the face of TU basketball.

"I don't look at my stats I just play the game, whatever I need to do to win is what I do," Haggerty said.

He hasn't just made an immediate impact this season, he's shot over 150 free throws and scored almost 350 points.

"I try not to pay attention to it as much...I just tried to block it out and just play basketball," he said.

He's currently ranked in the top 10 nationally for the Freshman of the Year Award.

"It would be a blessing for me... I just want everybody to realize how good I am as a basketball player," Haggerty said.

With 12 games remaining in the regular season, he has a shot to win it.
