New Details Released In Deadly Casino Shooting In Bartlesville

We have new details about a deadly shooting at the Osage Casino in Bartlesville, which was ruled self-defense by the District Attorney earlier this week.

News On 6 initially reported a citizen stepped in to save an officer who was being dragged by a truck during a traffic stop.

We now know that citizen went to the casino to confront the man who stole a relative’s credit card.

A 911 dispatcher alerted an Osage Nation police officer about a theft involving a credit card.

“Bartlesville just called and said they had a theft, and the stolen credit is being used at the Bartlesville casino ten minutes ago,” the dispatcher said. 

Brandon Hines' family reported a car break-in around 4 a.m. last November, and a stolen credit card was used at the Osage Casino in Bartlesville.

Surveillance video shows Beau Caskey, who police say was in possession of the card.

Brandon told police in an interview he and his dad, Harold Hines, got in their truck and drove to the casino with Brandon’s gun.

The following is a transcript from an interview between investigators and Brandon Hines:

Investigator: What was the intent there?

Brandon Hines: The intent was just to see about getting our stuff back.

Investigator: So, you thought the suspect was going to be there, is what you're saying?

Brandon: That is what we figured.

The call from dispatch relayed further details about the situation as it unfolded at the casino.

Officer: So, it's being used right now?

Dispatch: Yeah, 10 minutes ago. I do have a suspect vehicle on a 97 Dodge.

Officer: Crap, this guy's pulling out.

Dispatch: It shows a blue Dodge.

Officer: I got it right now.

Dispatch: Okay!

Moments after an Osage Nation Police Officer stopped Caskey, Brandon and Harold Hines pulled up to the stop and got out of their truck.

They approached the driver-side door of Caskey's truck with the officer.

Transcript from an interview between investigators and Harold Hines: 

Harold: I said, “Officer, we got this gentleman on video. He's been at our house robbing out.”

Investigator: So you told the officer?

Harold: I told the officer.

Investigator: This is the guy who burglarized your house?

Harold: “This is the guy. We got this gentleman on video.”

Documents received from the Osage District Attorney state the officer told Caskey he was being detained before Caskey tried driving.

Surveillance video shows Brandon unholstered his gun before the officer was dragged by Caskey's truck.

“I do not remember pulling my gun. I noticed that I had it out as was about to fire when I looked right down the sights of the gun,” Brandon told investigators.

Caskey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Osage District Attorney ruled the shooting as justified because the officer's life was in danger, and Heinz didn’t shoot until the officer's life was at risk.

The DA says no charges will be filed.
