Gore Board Of Trustees Votes In New Member After Previous Member Voted Out

There was more drama at the Gore Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday. 

Last month, trustees voted out one of their own, Gideon Miller, after his colleagues realized he didn’t live within the town boundaries.

Tuesday night, the board voted to replace Miller, even though he still refuses to acknowledge the January vote. 

Gideon Miller hired a lawyer to represent him who says a decision like this requires due process, and the town did not follow the law.

Tuesday night was the first town hall since Miller was vacated from his seat, but Miller walked inside the town hall and said it was going to be business as usual.

He sat at the table of trustees but was not acknowledged by the rest of the board. 

Two votes were made during the public session, but there was not an official vote from Ward 5 on either issue. 

At the end of the meeting, the town’s trustees quickly left, and News On 6 was unable to speak with them, but Miller’s attorney, Wesley Cherry, served a petition for a restraining order to the town’s attorney to prevent further actions against Miller. 

Cherry says no level of government has the authority to abuse its power.

“Whether it’s a sheriff’s race, district attorney’s race, judge’s race, or a local government, this country was built on local government. All of these people go to church together,” Cherry said. 

“They drink coffee in the morning together. All their kids go to school together, and if it weren’t for small towns, this country would break in two. And that’s what the town council, the board of trustees is seemingly wanting to have happen. To break the town in two.”

A vote to fill Ward 5’s vacancy with Miller’s opponent, Randy Foley, passed during the meeting. 

Foley says he wants to work on bringing a fractured community back together.
