Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma now has some new dental equipment to better help patients in need of care.
The clinic just received two new dental chairs thanks to a $40,000 grant from an Oklahoma charity organization, the Butterfield Foundation.
The dental clinic opened about 12 years ago and serves low income patients who don’t have insurance.
The clinic provides dental care to more than 1,100 people a year and has about 60 volunteer dentists, hygienists and dental students who perform cleanings and other procedures.
Dr. Jennifer Cook said its old chairs were in working order when the clinic first opened, but said it was time to replace them. She said the old ones also made it difficult to work on patients.
"The students absolutely love it. What they love is the ability to move the chair in the rooms so they can reach the patient more easily. Left-handed students love it that we can move everything around and they are able to sit comfortably on the right side of the chair for them to treat patients," Dr. Cook said.
The old chairs were donated to another dental clinic in Muskogee.
