After spending the first few day on Cowboys camp running with the 2nd and 3rd team, rookie Tyler Guyton spent the weekend with the first team at left tackle.
Make no mistake, it's very early in the process for the former Sooner and 1st round pick. Showing signs of the athleticism that made him one of the top OL members in the draft, Guyton was able to have significant reps against Tank Lawrence and Micah Parsons. "I bring an attitude and grit," said Guyton.
The Cowboys have two positions along the offensive line that they are trying to fill this camp.
The left tackle spot Guyton is competing for against Chuma Edoga and at center. Edoga got the majority of reps in the first couple of days, but this could be the turning point for Guyton.
The Cowboys let Tyron Smith sign with the Jets in free agency and decided to use the 29th pick on Tyler Guyton. The challenge of replacing a potential hall-of-famer in Smith is not lost on the rookie.
He has spent most of the offseason in Dallas working with Duke Manyweather at OL Masterminds Training.
When asked about the transition from playing right tackle at Oklahoma to playing left tackle with the Cowboys, Guyton says he is pretty comfortable so far.
"It's been smooth. My first two years in college, really three, I played left tackle. That's really what I know mostly." Cowboys fans will be paying attention to the battle for the starting spot at left tackle.
Full pads are on starting July 30th and the intensity will increase. The Cowboys first preseason game on August 11, against the LA Rams.
