Shelia Buck and her attorney Daniel Smolen celebrated outside the courtroom Tuesday after a jury found her not guilty.
“I am so excited and happy and relieved that it's finally over!” said Sheila Buck.
Buck was protesting outside the Trump Rally in Tulsa in 2020 when she was arrested for misdemeanor obstruction.
Police say she sat down in a secure area at the rally and wouldn't leave.
Buck had a ticket to the event but had been asked to leave by security.
She says she had a right t peacefully protest in the area and a jury agreed with that.
“Because it was my first amendment right. I feel like as an American, I have to stand up for the constitution and hopefully the constitution will back me and support me.” said Buck.
Over the last 4 years Buck says this case has drastically impacted her life.
“You know, I have lost friends over this and it's been rough. I had to leave this town that was my home.” said Buck.
The Tulsa County District Attorney's office sent us this statement after the verdict writing:
“We disagreed with how Ms. Buck handled herself with a Tulsa police officer at the Trump campaign rally. She refused to comply with the officer’s commands. She was arrested and charged with obstructing a police officer. We respect the jury’s decision. That’s what trials are for.”
Buck's attorney, Daniel Smolen says they have filed a civil rights lawsuit in federal court that will get picked up next week.
