The two leading presidential candidates are each honing in on their core issues.
Former President Donald Trump addressed economic policy during a visit to the battleground state of Georgia, while Vice President Kamala Harris called for federal action on abortion rights.
In Savannah, Trump spoke about his tax policy, promising to lower the business tax rate from 21% to 15% for companies producing goods within the U.S.
“We’re cutting the business tax from 21 percent to 15 percent which makes us the most competitive tax anywhere on the planet,” Trump said.
Trump also reiterated his commitment to tariffs, claiming they would boost the U.S. economy.
"We will take in hundreds of billions of dollars into our treasury and use that money to benefit American citizens. It will not cause inflation, by the way," he added.
The Harris campaign responded with a statement from over 400 economists arguing that Trump’s policies, including mass deportations and tariffs, would lead to price hikes.
While President Biden attended the U.N. General Assembly, Harris focused on reproductive rights during a radio interview with Wisconsin Public Radio.
Harris advocated for eliminating the Senate filibuster to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade.
“Fifty-one votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom,” Harris said.
However, Harris’ stance on the filibuster has faced opposition within her own party.
Senator Joe Manchin, who recently switched from Democrat to Independent, announced he would not endorse Harris, warning that removing the filibuster could “destroy the country.”
