People across the state are mourning the loss of John Franklin Stephens Jr., the inspiration behind Tulsa's iconic Golden Driller statue.
As superintendent for Dallas Meade Constructors, Stephens played a pivotal role in bringing the towering figure to life.
He oversaw both the design and construction of the statue, which he was the model for, and it now stands proudly at Tulsa’s Expo Square.
The Golden Driller has since become a permanent symbol of the Tulsa County region, representing the city’s deep connection to the oil industry.
Stephens’ contributions helped turn the statue into an enduring landmark, forever linking his legacy to the city’s history.
