CORDELL, Okla. (AP) -- A Cordell man is the newest national chaplain for the US Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Reverend Dean Derieg will assume the position for the second time. He previously served as the VFW's national chaplain in 1997 and 1998.

The 59-year-old served in the Army from 1966 to 1969, doing two tours in Vietnam. In 1980, he joined the VFW Post in Cordell and maintains a lifetime membership.

He has been a pastor at the First Baptist Church in Foss for 30 years.
