(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A tuition program will stay alive for the 2004-2005 school year.

Senator Mike Morgan is the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He says the Legislature will allocate $19.2-million for the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program.

The program provides free tuition for qualifying students. It doesn't pay for fees or room and board.

Senator Herb Rozell says 4,800 students will stay in the program from previous years. He says 4,200 freshmen will be added.

Governor Brad Henry says the program is an important economic development tool for Oklahoma. He wants to increase the number of college graduates in the state.

About one in five Oklahoma adults over age 25 has a college degree. Nationally, about one in four adults has a degree.
