Tahlequah Police have released video of an officer-involved shooting October 6.

It started as a domestic call from Bobby Vaughn's ex-wife saying he fired a gun at her home. When officers arrived they could not get Vaughn to come outside.

After a brief standoff, three officers opened fire on Vaughn after he came outside to point a gun at them.

"As you can hear, officers did not see Mr. Vaughn go down and did not know if they hit him. He retreated into the house and we lost visual contact of him," Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King said.

One shot hit Vaughn and killed him, but police didn’t know if they had hit Vaughn, so the Cherokee Nation SWAT team fired tear gas into the home.

After several rounds, officers went inside.

“They observed Mr. Vaughn laying and he appeared to be mortally wounded,” King said.

King says his officers acted courageously as they feared for their lives.

“I’m proud to be these guys’ boss. They acted courageously, maintained their poise and patience in a situation that was very tense,” King said.

All three officers involved are still on administrative leave.

The OSBI is still investigating and the DA will decide whether or not the fatal shooting was justified.
