Tulsa police are piecing together what led up to an afternoon drive-by shooting that sent a man to the hospital. News on 6 was first on scene when police found a stolen SUV they say was stolen and possibly used in the shooting.
Officers suspect the men shot Jimmie Johnson in the leg near 46th and Boulder. Police said it was a drive-by shooting and five shots were fired. Osage Sky News 6 HD flew over the scene not long afterwards.
Witnesses told police they saw the men drive off - hitting a fire hydrant.
Captain Malcolm Williams says that description helped officers find the SUV, which they pulled over at Mohawk Manor.
"A witness at the scene saw the vehicle and told police that the car had run into a fire hydrant around the area of 46th and Boston," Williams said. "The officers saw that the vehicle was consistent with damage done by hitting something else and leaving with the tire being flat."
Residents at Mohawk Manor Apartments say they're concerned after seeing two men with guns in a stolen SUV, just feet from where they live.
"I was thinking is anyone trying to shoot us or shoot up the complex," says Alexis Brown. "I am scared. It's really crazy seeing the car and cops."
Resident Titus Tollett said he knew one of the men.
"The second guy they pulled out, I recognized him as one of my old friends I played football with," Tollett said. "They pulled a blanket out and it had a revolver in it."
Resident Alexis Brown tells said this isn't the first time she has been in fear for her safety and she wants better safety measures at the complex.
"We need gates and security," says Brown. "because all these people have kids out here."
Police said they found two guns in the SUV as well as one gun at the scene.
The men are currently in police custody being questioned by detectives.
