As airports brace for one of their heaviest travel days this year, many TSA workers are working unpaid because of the government shut down.
In a recent report, Triple-A says fewer people are now traveling on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and instead the two heaviest days at airports are December 20 and the 26th.
This year, TSA workers are working unpaid through the partial government shut down. CBS News reports that it’s likely they will get back pay once the shut down ends, it’s unclear when that will be.
It all comes as AAA says the economy and increased consumer spending are leading to a third of the American population traveling during the holiday season-over or roughly 100 million people. AAA says more people are flying this year than they have in fifteen years, and the number of people driving to their Destination is the highest number they’ve seen since they started tracking holiday travel.
So the good news, if you are going to be here at the airport on Christmas Day, AAA has been predicting for weeks that this will be a light travel day and that if you need airline tickets today, the price may be better than it would tomorrow.
