Tulsa Public Schools is trying to avoid what they call the "Holiday Dip" in attendance. They say about 650 additional students miss school on the last week before holiday break.
For elementary students, below-freezing temperatures can also lower attendance by three percent. They say the "holiday dip" in attendance can add up to 24,000 lost instructional hours for kindergarten through fifth graders.
"So not only are you missing out on instructional time, but you're also missing out on engagement pieces that are going on, whether that's an awards assembly or a holiday program. It's important to come and engage and be a part of that school community," said Becky Baker.
TPS says if you're having trouble getting to school, your school office may be able to help.
