Broken Arrow city leaders broke ground Friday on a four-story, multi-use building coming to the Rose District.

City leaders said they're trying to build up the north end of the Rose District, and they expect the building to serve as a catalyst for growth.

The City said work will begin in a lot along Main Street between Detroit and Elgin. The building will have 31,000 square-feet of commercial space on the ground floor, and there will be about 90 apartments on the three levels above.

City leaders say it will be the biggest project ever in The Rose District - costing nearly $20 million.

"Downtown area has to go one of two ways," said Norman Stephens, economic development manager.

"It's either got to go forward or backwards. There's no stagnant, and Milestone is that next big thing that's going to continue to grow the Rose District."

City leaders said construction will begin in October. The project is expected to be complete in 2020.
