Osage Hills Schools is joining a rising trend of adding safe-rooms to each of their classrooms. A recent bond approval will fully fund the project with the goal of giving faculty and staff “a new sense of security and peace of mind.”
According to Charlie Willsey, President of Tulsa based, SchoolSafe Modular Shelters, the “shelter-in-place” concept provides certified EF-5 tornado protection, as well as an extra “safe haven” barrier from intruders. Willsey says that by placing these shelters in most classrooms it will eliminate the transition time of an emergency response situation.
“We are very serious about helping our schools provide a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff,” Willsey said.
SchoolSafe is a subsidiary of Tornado Place Shelters and also produces low-cost bulletproof door. The Osage Hills School shelter installations are scheduled to begin this week.
