The 21st annual Susan G Komen Race for the Cure was a huge success Saturday.

The race provided a positive spirit and energy for survivors, patients, and families who have lost loved ones.

"Oh, it's a beautiful day. It's a wonderful day … the energy here. This is amazing the group that's turned out for this." Said Tulsa resident Patti Gates.

The crowd is full of survivors Like Connie Brown, who has been cancer free for almost a decade.

Her husband, Paul, just died from breast cancer this February.

"This is the first year he hasn't been with me. And it's kinda hard this year." Brown said.

She said he fought it for 15 years.

"He was always proud. He always wore his pink." She said.

"Don't clown around. You get that mammogram and it'll maybe save your life.” She said.

Karen Briggs got a mammogram three months ago and was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"I'm gonna survive this … I got a big team! WOOOO!" Briggs said.

Her team is supporting her through the race and each day up ahead.

"I just need to keep fighting until it's all over," she said.

Thousands of people laced up for the half marathon, 5k races, and one-mile fun run.

All to raise money for the Susan G Komen Foundation, which said one in eight women in the U-S will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Each survivor received a pink carnation.
