Patients who received life-saving blood donations have a new way to thank their donors.
The new technology is called Thank-the-Donor.
Patients can scan unique bar codes on blood donations and attach a message.
Then the blood institute uses the bar code to transfer the message directly to the donor.
"They like the cookies and they like the T-shirts, and they like the fun of being around all the other great people who are at the blood drive doing the right thing," said John Armitage, Oklahoma Blood Institute president and CEO. "But at the end of the day they're there because they care about that human being hose life is being transformed."
The new technology is a joint effort between the OBI and Saint Francis Health Systems.
Developers hope it will encourage more people to give blood.
