Tulsa Police hope the public can help them identify a person of interest in gasoline thefts.

Police said over several months, a group of people has stolen thousands of dollars in gasoline and diesel thefts.

Police have released an image of the person they are trying to identify, along with a suspected vehicle.

They said several vehicles are involved, but a red Expedition with silver rims has been used multiple times and police believe it could belong to the person of interest.

"Within the last several months, we've had a ring of people who have been stealing gas from gas stations in the Mingo Valley Division,” said Tulsa police officer Jeanne Mackenzie.

Police say the thieves use stolen Pump Start cards to fire up the pumps, stealing more than $10,000 of gasoline and diesel fuel so far.

"They've pulled up to the gas pumps in a car with a trailer and in the back of the trailer will be different containers that you could fill with gas,” Mackenzie explained. “So, they fill the car up and then they start filling up the containers."

The suspect has returned to the gas station multiple times for free fill-ups.

"We're trying to identify him, trying to locate him and or his vehicle so we can get some more information on who is committing these crimes,” said Mackenzie.

Police say as this continues, it's the gas station owners who are paying the price.

"Somebody has to pay for that gas that people are stealing,” said Mackenzie. “If nobody pays for that gas then the company has to pay for that gas."

Anyone who recognizes the man or has any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
