More Oklahoma Utility Workers Heading To Florida

OG&E and PSO workers from Oklahoma will be playing an important role in getting the power back on for millions of Floridians in the coming days.  

Early Tuesday, a convoy of OG&E linemen left Oklahoma City headed to Florida.

OG&E says this group will coordinate work with a group of Florida Power & Light linemen.  

Early Monday, more than 300 PSO employees and contract personnel left for Florida.  A caravan of PSO trucks left from service centers in Tulsa, Lawton and McAlester.  

They are set to arrive in Tampa, Florida Tuesday.

A second stage of deployment for OG&E includes a convoy of 80 lineman and support staff that will leave Oklahoma on Wednesday. 

The utility says these lineman are leaving a day later to ensure OG&E resources are not overextended while providing personnel for both Harvey and Irma.  OG&E crews working on Harvey restoration efforts in Texas are expected to return home Thursday.

"Many of our workers have just returned after two weeks in south Texas helping our sister company, AEP Texas, recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey,” said Steve Baker, Vice President, Distribution Operations.  

No word yet on how long the PSO crews will be in Florida.
