The Oklahoma Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday to deny a request to assume jurisdiction in a lawsuit against the sale of Helmerich Park to a private developer.

This means that the case will be handled by a district court.

The request was made by the City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Public Facility Authority concerning a lawsuit against the city over the sale of a portion of Helmerich Park on Riverside Drive.

The lawsuit will return to the jurisdiction of District Court Judge Jefferson Sellers for trial, according to a news release.

Former Tulsa Mayor Terry Young expressed pleasure with the decision in a statement on behalf of the plaintiffs.

“We’re prepared to fight this in District Court and we believe we have the winning arguments,” Young said. “It’s time for the Dallas-based developer - UCR - to withdraw from the sale contract and go home.”
