Deputies And OSBI Investigate Nowata County Homicide

Sheriff's deputies and OSBI agents are trying to track down a killer in Nowata County after recording the first homicide there in more than a decade.

The body was found Tuesday evening.
    
Although the sheriff's office couldn't identify the body, a relative confirmed for us that it was her brother, Jerry "Bear" Gering.
    
The sheriff says people in town are "on guard" following the murder.

Nowata County Sheriff Sandy Hadley said, "It's really shaken up the community quite a bit because everybody knows everybody, grew up with everyone. So, they're really nervous."
    
OSBI is handling the investigation moving forward.
