The Board of Education is expected to approve more than 600 emergency teaching certifications Thursday in response to hundreds of jobs still open across the state.
TPS said they still have to fill nine teaching positions. They started the week with 10 open spots.
The district says Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist and other administrators decided to go into the classroom and fill the teaching slots until those hires were made.
Gist has been teaching here at Marshall the past few days and told me that teaching this week has been "challenging and wonderful and that the kids are a joy and the teachers are a gift to our world."
She said some teachers are still in the hiring process, it's just a matter of paperwork and background checks before they can start working with the children.
