Tulsa Police Release Video Of Incident In Which Suspect Was Shot And Killed

Tulsa Police released helicopter, dash camera and officer body camera video of the city’s most recent deadly officer-involved shooting.

Three officers shot and killed Jimmie Bevenue last Saturday. All three are on paid leave.

From the air, Tulsa Police kept an eye on the scene as Bevenue ran through a neighborhood near 4th and Garnett Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Two officers and a corporal all fired shots at Bevenue, killing him after they say he tried kicking in the door to a woman's home.

"The one thing we couldn't let carry on within the neighborhood was to allow him to start kicking in doors of individuals to go into their home while he was armed," Sergeant Shane Tuell said.

As shots are fired, body camera video shows an officer demanding several people to the ground at the original scene, where officers say they spotted a stolen Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Officers say Bevenue ran from that area and into the neighborhood with his gun.

Corporal Joel Ward's body camera shows him firing at Bevenue. The other two officers who fired are Officer Tracy Komasa and Officer Chad Murtaugh.

Murtaugh, 38, has been a TPD officer for 11 years, Cpl. Ward, 58, is a 24-year veteran of the force and Officer Komasa, 31, was hired by TPD in January 2012.

In February 2017, Officer Murtaugh was one of three officers involved in the shooting of a Claremore rape suspect who had led police on a chase in east Tulsa.

Tuell says investigators still have questions. They know Bevenue was armed, but did he point his gun at police?

"He may have presented his weapon, pointed it at an officer, or he may not have, and we don't know that yet," Tuell said.

Bevenue had a history of arrests in Tulsa, LeFlore and Caddo counties. He served time for credit card theft and burglary.

We talked to his sister Melissa on the phone. She says her brother "was not a bad person, he just made some really bad choices."

The family says Bevenue's funeral is Friday.
