A judge is dismissing state charges against two men accused of murdering Pawhuska oil man Rick Holt in 2015.

Investigators say brothers Jeremy and Tyler Reece killed Holt and buried his body on an oil lease. The Bigheart Times newspaper reports the judge said the federal government has exclusive jurisdiction over the case - because Holt was killed on Indian land.

The oilman was reported missing September 8, 2015, and Osage County Sheriff's deputies exhumed his body from a shallow grave on property just south of Wynona a few days later.

Court records show Holt was in a relationship with Jeremy Reece's ex-wife.

The state has filed an appeal.
